BRIEF BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Yi Hong is a Professor and a Distinguished University Professor in the Bioengineering Department at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). He achieved his PhD in Material Science and Engineering in 2005 at Zhejiang University, and then worked as a postdoc and later as a Research Assistant Professor in the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine in the University of Pittsburgh (PITT) from 2006 to 2012. He joined UTA in 2012, and his research focuses on developing functional and bioactive biodegradable soft materials and translational research for tissue repair and regeneration, drug delivery and bio-imaging applications with emphasis on cardiovascular disease treatment as well as women and children healthcare. He has published over 100 peer-review papers in the field of biomaterials, and 12 patents as well as over 140 conference abstracts. He received many awards, including NSF CAREER award (2016), UTA COE Outstanding Early Career Faculty Award (2018), Junior Investigator Award from BMES ABioM (2018), CAB Mid-CAREER award (2020), UTA COE Excellence in Research Award (2020), University Outstanding Research Award (2021), Senior Member of National Academy of Inventors (2022), Distinguished University Professor (2022), and AHA Established Investigator Award (2022). He was elected as Fellow of American Heart Association (FAHA, 2017), Fellow of American Institute for Medical & Biological Engineering (FAIMBE, 2023), Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC, 2023), and Fellow of Biomedical Engineering Society (FBMES, 2023). His research has been funded from AHA, NSF, NIH, ONR and CPRIT.
